100-Hour Inspection
Definition
An inspection required by FAR 91.409 for aircraft used for hire, including flight training. Must be performed every 100 hours of time in service.
Why It Matters
The 100-hour inspection includes a 10-hour overfly allowance (FAR 91.409(b)) — the aircraft can exceed 100 hours by up to 10 hours to reach a maintenance facility, but the excess counts against the next interval. Scheduling systems need to track both the due point and the hard overfly limit.
